Aureli's MCP server lets you connect your portfolio data to ChatGPT, so you can ask about your finances directly in your ChatGPT conversations.
This feature is available on every Aureli plan, including LITE.
Before you start: this requires ChatGPT's Developer Mode
Unlike Claude, ChatGPT does not currently offer custom MCP connectors as a standard, first-class setting. Support exists, but it's gated behind Developer Mode, a beta feature intended for people building and testing their own connectors — it's only available on the web, comes with warning screens about untrusted servers, and requires you to approve each tool call as you go. If you'd rather avoid a beta/advanced setting entirely, connecting Aureli to Claude gets you the same data with a fully supported flow.
How to connect
- Open ChatGPT on the web and go to Settings.
- Navigate to Apps → Advanced and enable Developer mode.
- Open the connectors section and choose Add custom connector (or equivalent — this is a beta area of ChatGPT's UI and may change).
- Enter the following URL:
https://aureli.app/api/mcp
- Give the connector a name (e.g. "Aureli").
- Click Save or Connect.
- A browser window will open asking you to sign in to Aureli (if you aren't already) and authorise the connection.
- Choose which permissions to grant — read portfolios, edit portfolios, or view connections.
- Confirm the authorisation. You'll be redirected back to ChatGPT.
You can now ask ChatGPT questions like "What's my current net worth?" or "What are my largest assets?" and it will pull live data from your Aureli account.
What ChatGPT can access
Once connected, ChatGPT can use the following tools depending on the permissions you granted:
- Read portfolios — view your portfolios, assets, debts, net worth, and allocation data
- Edit portfolios — add and edit assets, debts, and valuations
- View connections — view bank connection status
Revoking access
To disconnect ChatGPT from your Aureli account, go to Profile → Connected Apps and click Revoke next to the ChatGPT entry. See Managing connected apps for more details.
Troubleshooting
- No Developer Mode option? Developer Mode is currently web-only and may not be available on every ChatGPT plan or account. Check OpenAI's documentation for the latest on availability.
- Connection not appearing? Make sure you completed the authorisation step in your browser. Check that you're signed in to the correct Aureli account.
- Data not updating? ChatGPT fetches live data on each request. If values seem stale, check that your Aureli portfolio is up to date.
