By default a bank connection brings Aureli your balances and account details, and nothing else. Transaction data is a separate, optional extra: switch it on and Aureli also syncs the individual movements on the accounts you connect — the date, amount, description, merchant and category of each one — so you can see what actually happened between two balances.
It is off unless you ask for it, and you can delete everything Aureli holds at any time without touching your balances.
Before you start
- UK banks only. Transaction data is offered on connections made through Finexer, our FCA-authorised open banking provider for the UK. It is not available on US connections through Stripe Financial Connections, or on Trading 212. See Supported UK banks.
- It has to be chosen up front. Open Banking consents are fixed once authorised, so the opt-in happens on the review screen before you are handed to your bank. An existing connection made without it cannot be upgraded in place — you would remove it and set it up again.
Turning transaction data on
You can start from either place a bank connection is made.
From a portfolio:
- Open the portfolio and go to Assets.
- Click Add bank and search for your bank.
- On the review screen, switch on Include transaction data (optional).
- Click Continue to your bank and authorise the connection there.
From Connections:
- Go to Connections in the sidebar.
- Click to add a connection and pick your bank.
- Switch on Include transaction data (optional) on the review screen.
- Continue and authorise at your bank.
The Learn more panel under the toggle sets out exactly what Aureli receives, what it is used for, and why it is asked for separately. Access stays read-only either way: Aureli cannot move money or initiate payments.
Linking accounts so transactions appear
Transactions belong to a bank account, and a bank account reaches a portfolio through the asset or debt it is linked to. After you authorise, Aureli shows you the accounts it found:
- Leave Tracking on for each account you want in this portfolio, and edit the name if you like.
- Click Continue.
Each tracked account becomes an asset (current accounts, savings, cash ISAs) or a debt (credit cards, mortgages, loans), and its transactions surface against it. An account you leave off is not tracked, so its transactions will not appear in the portfolio.
If you left the flow early, open the connection from Connections and use Continue setup.
When transactions arrive
Aureli pulls transaction history as soon as the connection is authorised, then keeps it current four times a day. New items usually appear within a few hours of your bank publishing them.
How far back the first pull reaches depends on your bank. The consent asks for transaction history without a fixed window, so some banks hand over a couple of years and others considerably less.
Where to see your transactions
The Transactions page
A Transactions item appears in the portfolio sidebar once the portfolio has synced transactions. It is the full feed, newest first:
- The headline — how many transactions match your filters, and how many are still pending.
- Money in, money out and pending — three tiles summarising the filtered feed. Totals are only shown when everything in view is in one currency; adding a euro debit to a sterling one would produce a figure that means nothing.
- Filters — All, Pending, Money in, Money out, plus an account picker to narrow to particular holdings.
- Search — matches the description, merchant, reference, category and the name of the linked asset or debt.
- The list — grouped by day, each row showing what it was, which holding it belongs to, and the amount. Scroll to load more.
Filters and search are applied across the whole feed, not just the rows on screen, so the tiles always describe everything that matches.
The portfolio overview
The overview surfaces your most recent transactions in the side panel, with a link through to the full feed. Like every panel there, it removes itself when there is nothing to show.
An asset or debt
Open any holding backed by a connected account and you will find a Transactions tab listing just that account's movements.
The connection
Open Connections and pick a bank to see its transactions listed per account, alongside the accounts themselves and the connection's status.
AI chat
Aureli's assistant can read the transactions in the portfolio you are chatting in, so you can ask things like "what did I spend on groceries last month" or "what was that large payment in March". It only ever sees your own.
Portfolio update emails
If you have portfolio update emails switched on, transactions from the period inform the written summary — enough for it to tell a genuine outgoing apart from money you moved between your own accounts. Each recipient's summary is built from their own transactions only.
Connected AI apps
If you have connected an external AI client through MCP, it can list your transaction-enabled accounts and read their transactions. See Managing connected apps.
Pending transactions
Items your bank has authorised but not yet settled are shown, flagged as pending, and are not reflected in your balances. A pending transaction can still change its amount or disappear entirely before it settles, so Aureli updates it in place rather than adding a second row.
Exporting to CSV
Click Export on the Transactions page to download what you are currently looking at — the export uses the same filters and search as the feed, so the file matches the list on screen. Columns are date, description, category, account, account type, status, amount, currency, reference, merchant and balance.
A single export covers up to 25,000 rows. If your filters match more than that you will get the most recent 25,000 and a note asking you to narrow them.
Shared portfolios
Your transactions stay yours. Other members of a shared portfolio see the assets and debts a connected account is linked to and their balances, but never the transactions behind them — not in the feed, not on a holding, not through AI chat, and not in the summary emails they receive. Where two people have each connected a bank to the same portfolio, each sees only their own.
Turning it off and deleting the data
- Go to Connections and open the bank.
- Open the actions menu and choose Delete transaction data.
Aureli stops storing transactions for that connection and permanently deletes every one it already holds. Your accounts, balances, and their links to assets and debts are unaffected. Removing the connection entirely, or deleting your Aureli account, also deletes the transactions.
This is one-way. Because the consent is fixed once authorised, switching transaction data back on means removing the connection and setting it up again.
Deleting the data ends Aureli's copy of it, but does not narrow the consent you granted Finexer, which holds transactions as an independent data controller until that consent ends. Removing the bank connection in Aureli revokes it. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
There is no toggle when I connect my bank. The toggle only appears on UK bank connections, which are made through Finexer. US connections through Stripe Financial Connections, and Trading 212, do not offer transaction data.
I connected with transaction data on, but there is no Transactions page. The sidebar item appears once the portfolio actually has transactions. Check that at least one account on the connection is tracked and linked to an asset or debt, and give the first sync time to complete.
Some accounts have transactions and others do not. Two things can narrow what arrives. Your bank's own consent screen may not have granted transaction access even though Aureli asked for it, in which case the connection syncs balances only. Individual accounts can also refuse transaction syncing while their siblings work fine — Aureli stops asking those accounts and carries on updating their balances as normal.
A transaction is missing. Transactions only reach a portfolio through an account that is both tracked and linked to an asset or debt. Anything you track manually has no transactions at all.
