Every allowance. What's left. Before 5 April.

Allowances are the part of UK personal finance most easily lost. They reset on 6 April whether or not you used them, most of them don't carry over, and nothing tells you where you stand until you go looking. Plenty of people find out in March.

The tax year checklist is now in Aureli. Open Tax year in any portfolio held in pounds and you get this year's allowances, what you've put against each one, and what's left.

Set a target, not the maximum

Six allowances are tracked from the start: your ISA (£20,000, with the Lifetime ISA's £4,000 shown inside it rather than on top), the pension annual allowance (£60,000), the dividend allowance (£500), the personal savings allowance (£500, higher-rate band), and the capital gains exempt amount (£3,000).

Nobody fills a £60,000 pension allowance on an ordinary salary, so the statutory limit makes a poor goal. Set your own target for each row — what you can realistically put in — and progress is measured against that, with the limit still visible as the ceiling. Nothing on the screen judges your pace.

The ones that also reset

Below the main list sits everything else that turns over on 6 April: the gifting exemption (£3,000), Junior ISA (£9,000 per child), marriage allowance, rent a room (£7,500), and the trading and property allowances (£1,000 each). Add the ones that apply and they join the list. Junior ISAs are tracked per child by name — two children means two full £9,000 allowances, not one split between them.

Anything that doesn't apply to you, mark Not for me. It drops out of the headline and stays out.

Closed years stay readable

When 5 April passes, the year locks and keeps the figures it was actually assessed on. Switch back to it whenever you like to see what you sheltered and what went unused. That matters most for the pension allowance, where unused room can be carried forward for three years. An unused ISA allowance just goes, and the checklist says so on the row.

Ask your assistant

The checklist is available to Aureli's AI chat and over MCP, so you can ask Claude or ChatGPT how much ISA room you have left, or what your pension headroom looks like, without opening the app.

What it isn't

You enter what you've used. Aureli doesn't read contributions from your bank or your pension provider and guess — allowances carry rules about employer contributions, tax relief and transfers that a balance can't tell you, and a confidently wrong number here is worse than none. It's a checklist you keep, and it takes a minute.

The tax year checklist is free on every plan, on any portfolio held in pounds. Open a portfolio and you'll find it in the sidebar. If you're starting from scratch, our new tax year checklist is a good companion.
