Archiving an asset takes it out of your net worth while keeping its history intact. If you archived something by mistake — or an asset you sold has come back into your possession — you can restore it at any time.
Finding your archived assets
Archived assets are hidden from your main assets list, but they're never deleted.
- Open your portfolio and go to Assets.
- Switch the list to show Archived assets. Archived assets are held separately from your active ones, so you'll only see them once you've toggled to this view.
- Click on the archived asset you want to bring back.
How to restore an asset
- Open the archived asset to view its details.
- Click Restore.
The asset immediately returns to your active assets list and starts counting toward your net worth again. You'll see a confirmation that the asset has been restored.
What happens to valuation history
Restoring an asset never touches its valuation history — every valuation you recorded before archiving is still there, on the asset's Valuations tab.
There's one thing to know about how that history affects your net worth. When you archive an asset, Aureli records a zero valuation dated to the moment you archived it, so the asset drops cleanly to zero on your historical net worth chart. That zero valuation stays on the record after you restore the asset.
Because net worth always uses the most recent valuation by date, a freshly restored asset comes back in at zero — the archive-time zero valuation is still its latest-dated entry.
To bring a restored asset back at its real value, add a new valuation dated today. Open the asset's Valuations tab, enter the current Amount and Value as of date, and click Add. See Manually updating an asset's value for the full steps.
What restoring does not bring back
A couple of links are removed when you archive an asset and are not re-created when you restore it:
- Bank connections. If the asset was a cash account synced from a connected bank, that connection is dropped at archive time. Restoring won't reconnect it — you'll need to link the account to your bank again.
- Linked debts. If a debt (such as a mortgage) was linked to the asset, that link is removed at archive time and isn't restored automatically. Re-link the debt from the asset if you still want them paired. See Linking a debt to an asset.
Once you've restored the asset, added a current valuation, and re-established any bank or debt links you need, it behaves exactly like any other active asset.
