Track my ISAsHow this works
Every adult in the UK gets one ISA allowance a tax year: £20,000 in 2026/27, which runs from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. Cash ISAs, stocks and shares ISAs, Lifetime ISAs and Innovative Finance ISAs all draw on it. The tracker adds up what you've paid into each and takes the total off £20,000.
Each type's remaining figure is the most it could still take. That's whatever is left of the £20,000, capped at £4,000 a year for a Lifetime ISA and, from 2027/28, at £12,000 a year for cash ISAs if you're under 65. Because the types share one allowance, the remaining figures don't add up to the total.
Count only money you've paid in during this tax year. Interest, growth, the Lifetime ISA bonus and money transferred in from earlier years don't use any allowance.
In a flexible ISA, a withdrawal comes off this tax year's payments first, so it frees that much allowance again. Money taken out beyond those payments, from earlier years' savings, can be put back in the same tax year without using any allowance. Enter each type's payments this tax year less what's been withdrawn from flexible ISAs, down to zero. A Lifetime ISA can't be flexible.
The countdown uses your device's date and counts 5 April as the last day. Some providers stop taking payments a few days earlier.
How each type of ISA uses the allowance
- Cash ISAs can take the whole £20,000 in 2026/27. From 2027/28, under-65s can pay in up to £12,000 a year.
- Stocks and shares ISAs can take the whole £20,000, less whatever has gone into other ISAs.
- Lifetime ISAs take up to £4,000 a year, with a 25% government bonus on top. Withdrawals for anything other than a first home, terminal illness or reaching 60 carry a 25% charge.
- Innovative Finance ISAs hold peer-to-peer loans and similar, and can take the whole £20,000 less other ISA payments.
Planning for 2027/28
Switch the tracker to 2027/28 to plan the year that starts on 6 April 2027. The overall allowance is still £20,000, but cash ISA payments are capped at £12,000 for anyone under 65 on 5 April 2028. The tracker flags cash over the limit and shows how much room is left for other types.
From the same date, under-65s can't transfer money from a stocks and shares or Innovative Finance ISA into a cash ISA. The cash ISA limit planner shows how much of a regular cash ISA plan no longer fits, and the tax on its interest if it's kept in cash outside an ISA.
Questions
What is the ISA allowance for 2026/27?
£20,000, for the tax year from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. It's the total you can pay into all your ISAs together, of which up to £4,000 can go into a Lifetime ISA. It stays £20,000 in 2027/28.
Does the Lifetime ISA bonus count towards my allowance?
No. Only what you pay in counts, up to £4,000 a year. The government adds a 25% bonus, up to £1,000 a year, on top. Payments can be made from 18 until the day before your 50th birthday.
Can I pay into more than one ISA of the same type?
Yes. Since 6 April 2024 you can pay into several cash, stocks and shares or Innovative Finance ISAs in the same tax year, as long as the total stays within £20,000. You can still pay into only one Lifetime ISA a year.
Do ISA transfers use up my allowance?
No. Moving money from earlier years between ISAs through a transfer doesn't use any of this year's allowance. Withdrawing the money and paying it into another ISA does, because it counts as a new payment.
Do withdrawals from a flexible ISA give allowance back?
Within the same tax year, yes. In a flexible ISA, a withdrawal first reduces what's been paid in this tax year: £10,000 paid in and £3,000 taken out counts as £7,000, leaving £13,000 of the £20,000. Money withdrawn from earlier years' savings can be put back in the same tax year without using allowance. Withdrawals from an ISA that isn't flexible don't give any back.
What happens if I pay in more than the allowance?
Payments over £20,000 don't qualify for ISA tax relief. HMRC can have the excess, and what it earned, taken out of the ISA and taxed. The tracker shows how far over the total is.
What changes for cash ISAs in 2027/28?
From 6 April 2027, under-65s can put no more than £12,000 of the £20,000 into cash ISAs. If you're 65 or over by the last day of the tax year, the whole £20,000 can still be cash.
Does a Junior ISA count towards my allowance?
No. A Junior ISA has its own allowance of £9,000 a year, which belongs to the child, so paying into one doesn't use any of yours.
