Aureli supports portfolios with assets and debts in multiple currencies. Everything is converted to your portfolio's base currency when calculating net worth, so you always see a single coherent total.
Your portfolio's base currency
Every portfolio has a base currency that you set when creating it. This is the currency your net worth, reports, and totals are displayed in. You can change the base currency in Settings → Details at any time.
Supported currencies
Aureli supports the following currencies:
GBP, EUR, USD, CAD, AUD, SGD, NZD, JPY, CNY, CHF, INR
Each asset and debt can be denominated in any of these currencies, regardless of your portfolio's base currency.
How conversion works
When Aureli calculates your net worth, each asset and debt value is converted to your portfolio's base currency using the latest available exchange rate for that currency pair.
For example: if your base currency is GBP and you hold a USD-denominated asset, its value is converted using the latest GBP/USD rate before being added to your total.
When exchange rates are updated
Aureli fetches exchange rates automatically and keeps them current. Rates are updated daily, so the rates used in your calculations are recent but not real-time.
Why your net worth can change without any trades
If you hold assets in a foreign currency, your net worth in the base currency will fluctuate as exchange rates move — even if you haven't bought or sold anything. This is normal and reflects the real economic effect of currency movements on your wealth.
For example: if you hold EUR assets and GBP strengthens against EUR, the GBP value of those assets will fall, reducing your net worth in GBP terms.
What happens if a rate is missing
If no exchange rate is available for a particular currency pair, the asset's value is included in your total without conversion — i.e. the raw numeric amount is added to the base currency total. This is uncommon and typically resolves within a day, but it means your net worth total may be temporarily inaccurate for that specific asset.
Historical net worth and FX rates
When viewing how your net worth has changed over a period (week, month, year), Aureli uses the historical exchange rates from that earlier date when comparing. This gives you an accurate picture of how your wealth changed, rather than artificially inflating or deflating historical figures using today's rates.
